Breast Cancer Petition…

My good friend Jenifer sent me this email. It is in regards to a Breast Cancer Petition. The cause is very close to my heart. Every where I go, and people I know are batteling with this disease.

Here is the email:

Proposed Mastectomy Law Change

(written by a surgeon);

I’ll never forget the look in my patients eyes when I had to tell them they had to go home with the drains, new exercises and no breast. I remember begging the doctors to keep these women in the hospital longer, only to hear that they would, but their hands were tied by the insurance companies.

So there I sat with my patient giving them the instructions they needed to take care of themselves, knowing full well they didn’t grasp half of what I was saying, because the glazed, hopeless, frightened look spoke louder than the quiet ‘Thank you’ they muttered.

A mastectomy is when a woman’s breast is removed in order to remove cancerous breast cells/tissue. If you know anyone who has had a mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards. Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure. Let’s give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery.

There’s a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It’s about eliminating the ‘drive-through mastectomy’ where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.

This Mastectomy Bill is in Congress now. It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important. Please take the time and do it really quick! The Breast Cancer Hospitalization Bill is important legislation for all women.
Please send this to everyone in your address book. If there was ever a time when our voices and choices should be heard, this is one of those times. If you’re receiving this, it’s because I think you will take the 30 seconds to go to vote on this issue and send it on to others you know who will do the same.
Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web page with a petition drive to show your support.. Last year over half the House signed on. PLEASE! Sign the petition by clicking on the web site below.

This just takes a moment. PLEASE PASS THIS ON to your friends.

So take a second, and please sign the petition.

Sunday evening light…

Hubby came in from the yard and said the light outside was really nice for picture taking. Of course, I had no kids with me since my mom took them to Sacramento to swim with cousins. So the next best thing are my puppy-kids! I feel like I have neglected them photographically as well as a doggy-mama. Since my surgery on my knee, we haven’t walked. But that is changing next week.

Here are some pics from Sunday evening light:

mini-Session schedule…

Sorry for the the delay, but I have been trying to squeeze dates from my schedule… And here they are. Be sure to reserve you date and time early, they will go fast… Also remember, Christmas is only a few months away. It is time to start thinking about holiday cards. The last date I can shoot any sessions will be November 15th. Otherwise there will be a rush fee attached.

Hangers..

Brides to be… Here is one more thing to think about. I just got done reading a thing recently about hangers. And I have to agree. One your wedding day your dress should be on a hanger other than the dry cleaner hanger or plastic hanger it came in on. When a photographer shoots your dress, you don’t want to see this beautiful, expensive dress on this itty bitty, ordinary thing. Dress it up. Let you imagination go wild. I know, I know. Just one more thing to worry about. I know I will telling all my brides in the future about it!

A block from where I as having a session, I was rear ended. ONE BLOCK! It figures- Sacramento.  But I was so excited to shoot this beautiful couple, I could put the accident aside and concentrated on the two of them and their maternity session.

Closed door sessions…

I was asked by one of my bride’s-to-be to create a special something for her hunny. It was then that I decided to create “closed door sessions”. Bodiour is coming back. If you are interested in a session, or want more information, please drop me a line at jen@newvintagephotographybyjen.com.

South Cakalakie- Day 10: final shoot

DAY_10_mini_19

Now I couldn’t leave South Cakalakie without taking photos of my kiddies. :) I am jealous. The South has so many textures, greenery, wispy grasses, and more… Maybe I’ll get a summer home in the ‘burg!

Here are my babies…

South Cakalakie- Day 10: old cars and feeding fish

DAY_10_02

This was our last day. We went and fed the fish one last time. Papa Gerald bought a 1932 Ford he is trying to restore when he retires in two months. So I snapped some shots and the kids climbed in.
